HMV Research - Alexandra Hobbs

We were asked to go to HMV to do some research for our digipak, whilst in there we were set some tasks to complete. The first task was to stand in front of a range of CD's and see which one catches you attention. When i did this i found that JLS album caught my eye because it was colourful yet simple and the name was large and clear font, it was also in white which contrasted with the brighter colours going on in the backgroud.

I also found that the music DVD's were located to the right hand side of the store near the back and they were arranged alphabetically. HMV mainly showcased performance DVD's i would say about 65% were performance, 20% were documentaries 5% were compilations and 10% were film. The purpose of a music DVD is to showcase the artist and there music and what the are all about and represent.

I found that the CD's were located across the whole of the back and to the left at the front of the store and they were also arranged alphabetically, and some sections were arranged by genre. This shows that the relative importance of CD's is more than DVD's because an artist will release more CD's so more people just by the CD.

When we were inside the store, One Direction was playing at the listening posts this is most probably becasue there new single had just been released and the record company want it to be heard a lot so they make more sales.
