still Frame Analysis - Alexandra Hobbs

Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved

This first still frame shows the main singer turning around in slow motion, this introduces him to the audience, after this it has sharp cuts of clips of whats about to happen in the music video before he then jumps into the pool in front of him and as he does this it uses the effect of slow motion to show that it could be a memory as when hes under the water he puts his hands on his head as if he were thinking perhaps about a wrong decision he had made. As this starts off in slow motion then has clips that are fast and quickly cut together then returns to slow motion, it could give the audience an insight into how the song is going to be.

The setting is in various places it starts in a country club style place for wealthy people, as it shows people sitting on sun beds and there are waiters with drinks walking around the place. There is also some shots of the two women who are the focus of the video shopping together, as a memory of the singers, It also goes to a club where the band is playing, which then introduces the rest of the band, after this towards the end of the song it returns back to the country club place, It starts where it ends to show the audience it could have been memories of the singer.
This has heavily influenced our music video as we used various flashback throughout as memories and it also ends where it starts with her looking through the scrap book

Within this music video there are not that many characters within the story being told, there is the main singer, he is first introduced at the start in a slow motion shot of him turning around this could show to the audience that he may have done something bad and is turning to look back as a person, we can tell it is a serious matter with his facial experssion being very serious. The next people to be introduced are his girlfriend and an older woman which he is attracted to they are shown in the fast cuts after he has turned around at the very start, showing them in fast cuts could connote to the audience that they are a memory on his mind because it contrasts with his slow motion shot. There is also one more character within this music video and thats the older womans husband who is first seen ignoring her which makes the audience empathise with her and understand more why she goes off with the main signer because she wants attention and to be loved, he is then later seen hitting her at the Club in slow motion to create a more emotional impact on the audience.

Within this music video props arent used that much, there is drinks and sunbed at the Club and a car when he is sitting watching the girls shop, and when they are performing they have all of there instruments with them. The Costumes in this music video for the older woman were sophisticated compared to the younger girl who was more casual. The male character was in a casual top and trousers compared to the older man who looked smart with his hair combed and gelled back this shows status within the video.
When the band was playing there was a long shot to show all of them, but mainly they used close ups so that the audience could see each memeber, and there was a close of there instruments aswell.
Throughout this music video although a range of shot types were used it was mainly close ups of eyes for example at the end of the video this shot was also used with a fade effect over another clip at the very beginning which shows the audience it was a memory. Also using close ups a lot you can see the emotion in the characters faces and the hurt in their eyes. At the end it was a shot reverse shot of the young girls eyes and the man looking back but whilst with the older woman.
